Scenic picture of the Killofin Home

In 1977, an Irish-American family took a long, sought-after trip to Ireland.

They enjoyed the ancient castles, beautiful countryside, and history that is so rich in this country, but were preoccupied with the knowledge that they had ancestors living somewhere nearby. John McAllister had been told many stories by his father about a family home in Ireland where his great-grandfather Thomas had been raised.

He was told that the name of the family house was called “Killofin Home,” and that it was located somewhere along the Shannon River in County Clare.

With one day left on their trip, their search took them to the very small town of Labasheeda. It was there that the McAllister family inquired about the Killofin Home, and much to their surprise, they were then led to a home on the top of a hill overlooking the Shannon River.

The home was owned by a couple named Tom and Peggy Lillis. When the McAllisters arrived at their home, the response from the couple was astonishment, "You are the missing link!" Peggy exclaimed.

(For years the the Lillis family knew that there was family that had immigrated to the States but contact had been lost many generations ago.)

The McAllisters enjoyed a long afternoon of stories and family photos, as the Irish Peat burned in the fireplace and tea and breads were served at the Killofin Home.

From that time on, year after year were spent visiting the Lillis family at Killofin. And now, the traditional Irish ambiance of Killofin Home has been brought West.

With every visit, the McAllister family would traditionally bring home a bag of peat from Ireland to share with family and friends during special events. Year after year the family found themselves bringing more and more Irish peat back to share. Realizing how much everyone loved "a bit o' the Irish" brought to the states, the McAllisters decided to bring the Killofin Home stateside to spread the warmth and charm this country so dearly holds.

Killofin Home is a woman-owned business registered in the State of California.
