History of Killofin Home (Cuill ua Finn = Finn's church)

The Killofin Home was built by Charles Keane between 1840 and 1860. In 1855, he leased the ninety-three acre farm from Thomas Lloyd and then later took title. The original home still stands today and is currently inhabited by Tom and Peggy Lillis.
The Killofin Home is a two-story house located on the west edge of the small village of Labasheeda in County Clare, Ireland. It is situated high on the hill with a spectacular view of the river Shannon and the rolling Irish countryside.
Among the expansive grounds of the Killofin Home are the ruins of a church dating back to 1302.
Charles and Thomas married the Lillis sisters with Thomas and his wife Margaret eventually emigrating to America in 1848. Charles stayed at the Killofin Home and along with his wife Bedelia, had seven children. It is said that Charles must have gone into debt building the Killofin Home and all the outbuildings. It was the nicest place in the village and still is today.
When visiting the west coast of Ireland, the town of Labasheeda may be small, but the smiles are big and rich with history.
A fire in the hearth will always be ready.
